Bertie Lou's cafe is a small "hole in the wall" restaurant. It serves great breakfasts. While it is possible to get lunch there, I must admit I have never have eaten anything but breakfast or brunch there. I have never gotten a bad meal there. Bertie Lou's has an extensive local following and on weekends or holidays there can be a number of folks waiting for a table. Whenever I am in Portland, I try to make sure that I will that have a least one meal at Bertie Lou's Cafe. The food is plentiful, well prepared, and and tasty. The menu is large enough to tickle almost anyone palate, though I generally have eggs and bacon in some combination with biscuits and honey. The bacon is thick cut and as I usual go to Bertie Lou's with my adult children I have to guard my plate as they are always trying to poach slices from my plate. The coffee is good and plentiful. The staff is invariably good and interesting but I chat with almost everyone I meet. Bottom line when in Portland, if you wish to have a great breakfast or lunch go to Bertie Lou's Cafe. If you do let me know cause I hate waiting in line.

Sorry if the truth hurts. The restaurant walls are greasy and dirty . Won't go back. You need to power wash everything. I'm surprised the Health Department passed this establishment. Go to L.O. Biscuits for a great example of cleanliness! Food and service are outstanding! Who am I... For 15 yrs, I was the manager corporates hired to clean the neglected messes they found their restaurants. I would go in for 6 mos., clean and retrain hired help to keep it clean... then move on to the next one in the chain. I'm retired now.

This place had excellent food. Great neighborhood vibe in both decor and people. The owner makes all of the sauces, salsas, etc, from scratch. Quality ingredients cooked by quality people. You can taste it. Wide selection of scrambles, omelettes, sandwiches, burritos, pancakes, and other diner classics. This place is small and during nice weather the outdoor seats fill-up quickly. Get there early or prepare to wait. This is one of the better breakfast spots in SE or in all of PDX for that matter.

This breakfast joint is a throwback to the old style corner neighborhood restaurant. It’s small, cozy and inviting. Good service and fast turnaround with your food arriving quickly. Food is wholesome and you get a lot of it. Easy parking on the side street.

The salmon hash I had was amazing!!! The coffee was strong and hot. I highly recommend sitting outside on a nice day and enjoying a cup!
